Understanding Dressage

Dressage is all about precision and control. Judges look for key qualities like rhythm, energy (impulsion), steadiness, and harmony between the horse and rider. Horses are scored on a scale of 0-10 for each movement, and these scores are averaged to give a final percentage. The closer the horse maintains these qualities throughout, the higher the score.

• Faults at Obstacles:
• First refusal or run-out: 20 penalties
• Second refusal or run-out at the same obstacle: 40 penalties
• Third refusal anywhere on the course or a fall results in elimination.
• Obstacle Dimensions:
• Maximum Height: 1.20m
• Top Spread: 2.00m
• Base Spread: 3.00m
• Maximum Drop: 2.00m
• Brush Fences Height: 1.45m

About Jumping

Jumping tests a horse's ability to clear obstacles while maintaining a smooth stride. Courses consist of 14-16 jumping efforts and must be completed within a set time. The course is designed with varying distances between jumps to challenge both horse and rider.
