The Coronation of King Charles-A date for your diary!

The Coronation of King Charles

The Coronation of King Charles III will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the British people. On Saturday 6th May 2023, Their Majesties will arrive at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace to celebrate this momentous occasion and begin their reign as the new Monarch Royalty.

This event will reflect the Monarch's role today and a look towards the future while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry. The Coronation service will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury who will lead the ceremony with dignity and grace.

What will King Charles wear at the Coronation?

The Coronation of King Charles III is an important moment for the kingdom and its people. To reflect the prominence of this occasion, the Coronation calls for a special outfit that will befit his royal lineage.

King Charles III will proudly wear a sumptuous robe in crimson velvet, richly decorated with gold embroidery. He will have a coronet of gold with rubies and pearls, as well as a mantle of velvet lined with ermine. A sceptre and sword will accompany the coronation dress, signifying his new status as king.

Special Insignia

In addition to the Coronation outfit, special insignia will also be presented during the ceremony. These include a gold badge with the king's coronation motto and a large coronet for his consort, Queen Elizabeth II.

King Charles III will also have the privilege of wearing the Coronation ring, a symbol of his union with the kingdom and its people. This precious gold ring will always remind him of this special day when he is Coronated and begins his reign as King of the United Kingdom.

The Service

The Coronation of King Charles III marks the culmination of a long-standing tradition that has been observed in Britain since at least 1066. It is an important event for the monarchy and one which signifies the Coronation oath taken by His Majesty. During this ceremony, The King will make solemn promises to govern by British laws, maintain the Church of England and uphold justice, amongst other commitments.

After the service

After the Service, Their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession, known as ‘The Coronation Procession’. Their Majesties will be joined in this procession by other Members of the Royal Family.

At Buckingham Palace, The King, and The Queen Consort, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, will appear on the balcony to conclude the day’s ceremonial events.
